Arie Kopelman, the former president and chief operating officer of Chanel, died of pancreatic cancer. He was 86. During his 18-year tenure, the luxury goods house flourished as annual sales rose from $357 million to $7 billion. Born Sept. 23, 1938 in Brookline, MA, Kopelman graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1960, where he studied pre-med but majored in art history. He later received an MBA from Columbia University.
